St Peter and St Paul's Church, Shoreham

The Prelude:  1.00 – 2.15pm 

Blaze Wind Quintet

Venue: Church of St Peter and St Paul’s, Church Road, Shoreham

A fabulous mix of modern and classical pieces, performed by this innovative, internationally-acclaimed quintet.

Including:

Ibert: Trois Pièces Brèves; Samuel Barber: Summer Music; Jim Parker:  Mississippi Five; Jonathan Cooper: The Funambulist’s Daring Feats; Malcolm Arnold: Three Sea Shanties; Gershwin: Summertime.


Charlie Murphy

The Gatheringfrom 2pm

Venue: Village Recreation Ground

From 2pm, there will be midsummer activities for children: (including garland-making, face painting, costume workshops). Transform yourself into Apollo the Sun God or Titania, Queen of the Fairies, perhaps!

Charlie Murphy and friends will be making a very special appearance with the pantomime pony dressage troupe.

There will be will be refreshments served  and musical entertainment.

It is also a good opportunity to visit the Horticultural Society Show in the village hall.

The Procession: 3.30pm

Starting from the Village Recreation Ground.

Take part in a musical and theatrical procession (3/4 mile) for all the family.

Through country lanes and footpaths, down to the Quadrangle Trust.

Drawing inspiration from traditional folklore from Kent and further afield, there may be installations, music and surprises along the way.

Quadrangle barn

Discovery time: 4.00-6.00pm

Venue: The Quadrangle, Granary Barn, off Shoreham Road (A225), Shoreham TN14 7RP.

A variety of music workshops including drumming and singing, suitable for adults and children.

Plus Kent Wildlife Trust will be leading nature activities, and will give a talk about the wildlife of the Darent Valley.

The Interlude 6.00 – 7.00pm

Delicious food and drinks will be available.

Plus – a screening of masterful short films, loosely based on a Nature theme, by emerging and established artists, including Edwina Ashton, Charlie Murphy, Marcel Dinahet and Sean Vicary (see artists and musicians page for more details and links to their websites).

Also, a fire. In traditional midsummer rituals yellow flowers  which resembled the sun (eg St John’s wort, corn marigolds) were burned in celebration of the Sun at its zenith.

Day and Night

Evening Concert: 7pm – 9pm

Venue: The Quadrangle, Granary Barn, off Shoreham Road (A225), Shoreham TN14 7RP.

Day and Night Singers & Co

A collective of musicians, Day and Night will perform traditional and original songs from around the world – soaring harmonies, vocal wonderment and foot-stomping fun!   Songs to include In the Pirrin Mountains, The Blackest Crow, Oi Za Ya, Jolene (Dolly Parton), Walk With Me, White Stones, Mur Stojmeno and more…

The Afterparty: from 9pm

Fiddlefit

A fantastic local barn dance duo to get you up and moving:  Bill on guitar and vocals, Judith on fiddle!
